WHO announced the detection of the British strain of coronavirus

A relatively new "British" strain of coronavirus has spread across eight European countries. This information was provided by Hans Kluge, who heads the WHO regional office.

Such a message appeared on the page of the organization's representative on Twitter. Scientists from eight European countries were able to identify the VOC-202012/01 strain, which was first recorded in the UK. Kluge drew attention to the fact that there is a need to strengthen measures aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19.

The danger of the new strain is that it is transmitted faster than the "original" version of the pathogen. It is now being found in new infections in Britain, especially in London. Because of this, not only in the capital of the country, but also in the southeast of England, severe restrictions were introduced, which remain relevant, including for the New Year holidays.
