The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has filed a lawsuit to block Microsoft's $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The deal was to be one of the largest in the history of the technology industry.
The lawsuit alleges that the deal, which should make Microsoft the world's third-largest video game publisher, would give the company "both the means and the motive to harm competition." All this can ultimately negatively affect the cost of games, as well as their quality.
Microsoft disagrees. Activision CEO Bobby Kotick says the FTC lawsuit may sound "alarming" but he remains confident the deal will close. “The claim that this deal is anti-competitive is not true and we believe we will win,” he said.
