Don’t smoke in front of your child

Australian scientists from the University of Melbourne argue that parents who allow themselves to smoke in the presence of children do not have the best effect on the health of several generations of the family.

With such passive smoking, the child comes into contact with toxic substances released into the air, but this harm is not limited to the body of the child only, but can even affect his children. This is stated in an article published by The European Respiratory Journal.

In particular, the researchers warn that the offspring of those who were exposed to secondhand smoke as children are at greater risk of developing asthma than children whose fathers and mothers were not exposed to such exposure in childhood. If the father passively smoked, the risk of developing non-allergic asthma in a child increased by 59%, and if the father, after passive smoking in childhood, also began to actively smoke himself, by 72%.

The conclusions of scientists are based on the analysis of data that have been collected since 1968, about 1689 children living on the island of Tasmania, their fathers and grandfathers.
